Actress Vera Alentova has died at the age of 83. This was reported by the Pushkin Theater. The cause of death was not specified.
"A great tragedy has occurred... Vera Valentinovna Alentova has passed away. She served at the Pushkin Theater for 60 years. Our grief is boundless. We will inform you about the date and place of the farewell later," the theater's publication states.
Today afternoon, the actress arrived at the Mayakovsky Theater to say goodbye to her colleague, actor Anatoly Lobotsky. Alentova felt unwell even at the entrance to the theater, she was swaying, and after a while, medics carried her out on a stretcher.
Vera Alentova was born on February 21, 1942, in Kotlas, Arkhangelsk Oblast. She gained great popularity for her leading role in Vladimir Menshov's film 'Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears' (1979). The film won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film, and the actress herself became a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR.
Other notable works include 'Tomorrow Was the War' (1987), 'Shirley-Myrli' (1995), and 'The Age of Balzac, or All Men Are...' (2007).
She was married to director Vladimir Menshov, who passed away in 2021, for over 50 years. Their daughter is the well-known television host and actress Yulia Menshova.
Alentova served in the theater until the end. In January and February, she was scheduled to perform at the Pushkin Theater in the plays 'Madame Rubinstein' and 'False Confessions.'
