Club in Jelgava Limits Visitors in Sweatpants and Received a Sharp Backlash

One of the most popular clubs in Jelgava - Melno cepurīšu balerija - reminded visitors of the dress code rules and effectively sparked a heated discussion on social media.

The establishment emphasized that it wants to see people who look 'decent' and requested respect for its internal order.

In its statement, the club clarified that wearing sports pants is only allowed for quick takeout food pickups, but such guests are not permitted to sit at tables or on sofas. According to representatives of the establishment, some customers react aggressively to the remarks.

"There are people who arrogantly pretend not to see the sign. When we point out the dress code violation, arguments ensue, Russian exclamations are heard that children can hear, human rights are recalled, and threats to call the police are made. This is the kind of aggression we do not want to see in our establishment," the club's message stated. They added that the rules are necessary for a comfortable atmosphere and wished everyone a good day.

The publication sparked an active reaction: some supported the idea of a strict dress code...

"Let there be more places in Latvia without sweatpants!"

"As a wife, I like this order - my husband even takes classic trousers in a bag when we go to Jelgava."

"The owner has the right to set any rules. If you don't like it, don't go."

...while others reacted sharply:

"Elitist, good luck with your business! What difference does it make what I wear if I just want to eat?"

"Now there's a reason not to go there."

Some users called the post a successful marketing move, while others suggested extending the dress code to cultural institutions.
