A British study by Post Office Travel Money has shown that Vilnius has become the most attractive European city for Christmas trips in 2025 in terms of price and quality. This was reported by the portal madeinvilnius.lt.
Experts compared the costs of a two-day trip for two to 15 popular cities in Europe, where tourists traditionally go for Christmas markets. The calculations included: round-trip airfare, two nights in a 3–4 star hotel with breakfast, airport transfers, two dinners with wine, coffee, hot drinks, and snacks.
According to the report, Vilnius turned out to be the most affordable option - £509 for the entire trip. This is 8% cheaper than Riga, which ranked second, and significantly more economical than Bratislava, which came in third. Among budget destinations, Polish cities such as Gdańsk, Warsaw, and Kraków were also highlighted. The most expensive Christmas city was recognized as Copenhagen: a two-day trip there will cost more than £1,000.
British media note that the appeal of Vilnius lies not only in low prices but also in the special festive atmosphere. The Christmas market is concentrated in the Old Town, allowing visitors to explore all locations without transportation and unnecessary haste. Tourists highlight the availability of food, mulled wine, and desserts - prices here are lower than in Western European cities.
At the same time, analysts emphasize that the study only considers basic expenses.
Additional entertainment - shopping, concerts, museums, or spas - can significantly affect the total cost of the trip. Moreover, what seems "affordable" to Britons may still be expensive for some residents of Vilnius, although compared to London or Copenhagen, prices still appear more accessible.
Nevertheless, the high ranking is seen as a positive signal for the city - Vilnius is strengthening its position as an attractive and comfortable destination for winter travel.
