Reproductive specialist Michael Carroll and immunologist Sami Behna claim that certain types of allergies make sex a dangerous activity for health. Their words are reported by Euronews.
According to Carroll, 12 percent of women are allergic to sperm. Among the symptoms of this condition, he mentioned itching, burning, and pain in the vagina, lasting for several days after sexual intercourse. In more severe cases, discomfort spreads to other parts of the body, and additional gastrointestinal problems and even anaphylactic shock may occur.
Allergies can also occur to a partner's saliva, Behna warned. "The allergic reaction is not caused by the saliva itself, but by the antigens present in it. It can occur after contact with the saliva of a person who has consumed an allergenic product or medication," he explained. Additionally, there is an allergy to sweat, specifically to the protein contained in it, the doctor added.
Another issue could be an allergy to water, as washing is necessary before sex, he continued. It manifests as itchy blisters on the skin. All the mentioned conditions can be treated by avoiding triggering factors, Behna concluded.
