Beauty needs to be expanded, believes Alejandra.

Alejandra Marisa Rodriguez works as a lawyer in the medical field, but now the whole world knows her not as a skilled professional, but as a woman with the most beautiful face, outshining all the young beauties.

The organizers of beauty contests are regularly criticized for promoting outdated standards of appearance. However, even in this rather conservative sphere, changes are gradually taking place. More and more often, the jury and the audience pay attention not only to the external attractiveness of the participants but also to their life journey, values, and contributions to society.

Thus, in 2023, at the Miss Universe contest, special attention was given to a participant from Nepal — plus-size model Jane Garrett. She openly spoke about the importance of mental and physical health for women and became a symbol of a new wave of feminism in the beauty world. Although Jane did not win the crown that year, her place was rightfully taken by Alejandra Marisa Rodriguez from Argentina the following year.

Alejandra is 61 years old, and since the beginning of 2024, she has held the title of 'Miss Buenos Aires'. Despite the fact that the age of participants was previously strictly limited, the woman managed to pass the selection and reach the national level — the Miss Argentina contest. If she had won, she would have represented the country at Miss Universe.

However, Rodriguez did not win at the national stage: the title of Miss Argentina was awarded on May 25 to 29-year-old actress and model Magali Beneham. Nevertheless, Alejandra also received recognition. She was awarded a special prize in the 'Best Face' category. For her, this was an important achievement and, as she herself admitted, the beginning of significant changes.

"This is the first step towards upcoming changes. I hope that this (my participation) signifies a 'before' and 'after'. I think that external beauty is always in the spotlight; I wouldn’t say that choosing a beautiful woman is wrong, but perhaps the concept of beauty needs to be expanded," noted Alejandra after the contest.

The fact that Rodriguez was able to participate at all became possible due to changes in the rules of Miss Universe. Starting in 2024, the organizers abolished the age limit (which previously ranged from 18 to 28 years) and allowed all adult women to compete without exception.
