10 Practical Life Hacks for Dog Owners

The appearance of a dog in the apartment completely changes the family's life. A new friend requires attention and care. These life hacks will help ease the care of your pet and save you time and nerves.

  1. Teeth Cleaning Teeth cleaning is one of the most challenging tasks for both the dog and the owner. To make the process easier, apply toothpaste to a rubber toy with bumps and let your pet chew on it.

  2. Slowing Down Food Consumption Some dogs eat too quickly, which can cause vomiting and digestive issues. The solution is simple: place a large object, such as a tennis ball or a small bowl upside down, in the food bowl. This will slow down their eating.

  3. How to Give a Pill If your dog refuses to take medication, hide the pill in a meatball, cheese, or egg yolk. Toss the balls one by one during playtime, saving the medication for the end when your pet is fully engaged in play.

  4. Protecting Eyes and Ears While Bathing A dog's sensitive eyes and ears can be irritated by water and soap. Put a shower cap on your pet or use it only during rinsing — it will take just a few seconds.

  5. Removing Stains from Carpets If your dog has left a stain on the carpet, treat it with white vinegar, then sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda. After 1–2 days, vacuum up the remnants — the smell will be completely gone, and the carpet fibers will remain intact.

  6. Removing Hair from Furniture A rubber glove dampened with water effectively collects hair from sofas and chairs. For carpets, use a rubber window squeegee.

  7. Protecting Cables Puppies love to chew on wires during teething. Wipe the cable with a cloth soaked in apple cider vinegar — the unpleasant taste and smell will deter your pet. Don't forget to offer rubber toys and special bones.

  8. Static Electricity During thunderstorms, pet fur can accumulate static electricity. Wipe your dog with a damp cloth to alleviate discomfort.

  9. Removing Ticks Do not try to remove ticks with your hands. Soak a cotton ball in liquid soap and bring it close to the parasite — after a few seconds, it will crawl onto the cotton ball by itself.

  10. Warm Sweater for a Small Dog To keep your pet warm in winter, sew a sweater from woolen leg warmers. Make holes for the paws and finish the edges to prevent the knit from unraveling. This is convenient and economical compared to designer clothing.
