The Latvian Open-Air Ethnographic Museum will hold a fair of traditional folk applied arts on June 6 and 7, reports LETA.
This year, more than 500 Latvian artisans, food and cosmetics producers, book publishers, and catering enterprises will present their products at the fair. A diverse cultural program will also be organized, featuring dances, songs, theatrical performances, a carousel for children, and various demonstrations of craft skills.
At the fair, artisans from all regions of Latvia will offer visitors the chance to view and purchase ceramic products, various woven items, wooden objects made using traditional processing methods, leather goods, metal products, jewelry, tablecloths woven by craftsmen, towels, scarves, and blankets; knitted and crocheted items will also be presented, along with clothing, natural cosmetics, bath accessories, as well as toys, candles, glass products, printed materials, and other goods.
At the market, you will not only be able to purchase folk applied art products but also interact with numerous artisans who are ready to demonstrate and teach their skills. Craft demonstrations will take place on both days at the Market Square and throughout the fairgrounds. You will have the opportunity to learn your first skills in a pottery workshop, learn to spin wool, weave baskets and woven items, felt, carve spoons and abrus, make pastels, weave porcelain, engage in beadwork, cross-stitch, make dolls, knit bath brooms, create herbal mats, and other skills, as well as learn the basics of playing the kokle.
Visitors can also look forward to performances by folklore and dance groups.
