Until May 23, the Latvian National Museum of Nature invites visitors to the exhibition "Cacti and Other Succulents 2026," which traditionally takes place in collaboration with the Latvian Society of Cacti and Succulents. Guests will be presented with about 500 species of cacti and other unusual plants.
The main theme of this year's exhibition will be epiphyllums and rhipsalis, which grow in the warm and humid forests of Brazil. These plants are characterized by their hanging form and are divided into epiphytes, which grow on tree trunks, and lithophytes, which inhabit rocks. Visitors will also be able to see mammillarias, astrophytums, rebucias, schlumbergeras, euphorbias, and many other exotic succulents.
The organizers remind that cacti and succulents remain some of the most popular houseplants due to their relatively simple care. For their full growth, good lighting, temperature fluctuations between day and night, as well as a cool and dry winter dormancy are necessary. Specialists advise adding small stones and clay to the soil, which contain important trace elements for the plants. In addition, for flowering, cacti require not only sunlight but also a period of lower temperatures. Succulents themselves have natural protection against ultraviolet rays.
During the exhibition, visitors will be able to receive consultations from specialists on the selection, purchase, repotting, and care of plants. Additionally, a photo exhibition "My Bird 2026" will be held at the museum.
Exhibition hours: May 21 and 22 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, May 23 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
