After the reconstruction of the Latvian National Opera building, the Riga Opera Festival will take place in June, representatives of the LNO informed LETA.
The festival program will include both new productions of this season and repertoire performances by Latvian and foreign soloists. Several invited artists will perform in Riga for the first time.
This year, the festival will open on June 4 with the premiere of a new production of Puccini's opera "La Bohème." The new production will be created by the chief conductor of the Estonian National Opera, Arvo Volmer, and director Laura along with her creative team. The production will also feature French set designer and lighting designer Fabien Léde, for whom this will be his first work at the LNO.
The festival program also includes the operas "Cavalleria Rusticana," "L'elisir d'amore," "Carmen," and "Aida," as well as ballet performances of "Peer Gynt," "Cacti," "Casanova," "Sleeping Beauty," and "Antonia # Silmači."
Several world-renowned soloists will participate in the festival, including Ukrainian tenor Dmytro Popov, British tenor Adam Smith, American bass-baritone Christian van Horn, as well as Latvian opera singers Aleksandrs Antonenko, Zanda Švēde, and other artists.
The Riga Opera Festival will conclude on June 20 with a gala concert under the musical direction of Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, featuring the choir of the Latvian National Opera and invited festival artists.
