The European Film Academy has included the Rīgas nami in the list of treasures of European film culture

The European Film Academy (EFA) has added ten new sites to the list of treasures of European film culture, among which is the "Splendid Palace" cinema, RIGA's nami reported to LETA.

Since 2022, this list includes places that have symbolic significance for the European film industry and historical value—places that need to be preserved and protected not only today but also for future generations.

As noted by "Rīgas nami", the "Splendid Palace" cinema is one of the most luxurious and oldest cinemas in Europe, which has been offering audiences outstanding and quality films since 1923. The building has always showcased films, which is why the "Splendid Palace" has preserved its historical appearance and value as an architectural monument.

"It is a great honor for us that the 'Splendid Palace' cinema has been included in the list of treasures of European film culture. So far, only 60 remarkable places in Europe have been included in the list, and this year it has been supplemented with ten more important sites, one of which is the 'Splendid Palace' cinema," said the cinema's director, Ildze Eglina.

In 2026, the list of treasures of European film culture was also supplemented by historic cinemas such as "Bio Skandia" in Stockholm and "Kino International" in Berlin, the film studio "Shqipëria e Re" in Tirana, and the Dovzhenko Film Studio in Kyiv.

Additionally, the list has been expanded to include filming locations such as "Stalker Path" in Tallinn, the Vemork hydroelectric power station in Norway, the Roman Well in Belgrade, as well as the Kaunas City Museum. The digitized archive of the work of the outstanding Polish film director Krzysztof Kieślowski has also been included in the list.

Currently, the list of treasures of European film culture includes 70 sites. Latvia is represented in this list by the Great Stage in Mežaparks and the "Splendid Palace" cinema.
