At a press conference in Assen, the return of the gold helmet from Coțofenești — an artifact of the Geto-Dacian culture from the 5th century BC, stolen from the Drenthe Museum, was announced.
Two of the three gold bracelets from the second half of the 1st century BC were also found. The artifacts were exhibited in January 2025 at the Drenthe Museum in Assen as part of the exhibition "Dacia — Empire of Gold and Silver," showcasing items from 15 Romanian museums.
The thieves were arrested within days of the theft. The helmet from the collection of the National Museum of Romanian History is currently under heavy guard in Bucharest.
