An original part of the Eiffel Tower will soon be auctioned in France. According to The Independent, on May 21, a fragment of the staircase of this Parisian landmark will be sold to the highest bidder.
It is noted that the Eiffel Tower was designed by French engineer Gustave Eiffel, and construction was officially completed in March 1889. In 1983, the spiral staircase connecting the second and third levels was dismantled and divided into 24 separate parts, which were replaced with elevators and sold at auctions.
One 14-meter fragment is currently located on the first level of the tower, while the others can be seen at the Musée d'Orsay, La Villette, and the Museum of Iron in Paris. The remaining 20 sections were sold and are now scattered around the world—from Disneyland to Japanese gardens in Yamanashi Prefecture.
It is said that the French auction house Artcurial is organizing the sale to find a new owner for the original fragment, which belongs to an anonymous seller. The rare piece being auctioned is 2.5 meters tall and has recently been restored—its original brown color was returned after more than 40 years in a private collection. According to media reports, this is already the fifth fragment of the staircase that has been resold since 2013. In 2016, a similar piece measuring 2.5 meters was sold for €523,800 after fierce bidding. Artcurial estimates that the price could reach €50,000 at the May auction.
The auction house noted that on May 21, 2026, the Art Deco department of Artcurial will present a part of the history of the Eiffel Tower—the section of the original spiral staircase from 1889, created under the supervision of Gustave Eiffel. This concerns section No. 1 of the staircase between the second and third levels, which is preliminarily estimated at €40,000–€50,000.
The total height of the structure is 2.75 meters (2.60 meters to the platform), and the diameter is 1.75 meters. It is made of steel and riveted sheet metal and has 14 steps resting on a cross-shaped base. This structure was part of the spiral staircase that visitors once used to ascend to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

The structure is located nearly 60 meters above the ground, is completely covered with a mesh, and consists of more than 25,000 mesh panels. Walking on the bridge is free for all ticket holders of the Eiffel Tower, with access from the first floor.
