On Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 AM, the twelfth snowdrop planting masterclass will take place in Ventspils at the Seaside Park, which has become a beloved tradition for many residents and guests of the city.
The first heralds of spring are ringing, announcing the beginning of spring, so everyone – both adults and children – is invited to participate in the masterclass. During the event, everyone will have the opportunity to plant their own snowdrop, receive a boost of positive emotions, enjoy the joy of spending time together, and make the park even more blooming together.
Participants are invited to come to the Children's Playground in the park with their snowdrop seedlings or to receive them on-site. A total of about 5000 snowdrop seedlings are planned to be planted. Working gloves will be available at the planting site, and the organizers ask participants to bring along a handy tool, such as a small shovel or garden trowel, for a more convenient working process.
In previous years, snowdrop seedlings were planted in several locations around the city – in the Renķi Garden, in Dzirnavu Square, but they are most widely spread in the Seaside Park. A special event took place on April 8, 2017, when, in honor of the centenary of the state, the largest snowdrop planting in the world was held in the Saraknmuyza meadow in Ventspils. A Guinness World Record was set in the category of "Fastest and Largest Simultaneous Planting of Bulb Flowers." The record was established with the participation of 1293 people, who created a special hole of snowdrop seedlings in the symbolism of Latvia's centenary.
By the way, in the autumn of 2025, Ventspils received the Latvian Landscape Architecture Award for the tradition of planting snowdrops, and this award is a significant recognition of the city and its residents.
