On March 22, a solemn event titled "Aivars Leimanis: 50 Years on Stage" will take place at the Latvian National Opera, dedicated to the outstanding choreographer, former ballet soloist, and long-time artistic director of the Latvian National Opera — Aivars Leimanis.
The anniversary evening is conceived as an emotional and inspiring journey through five decades of the artist's creative life — from the brightest stage roles to the most significant choreographic productions.
"Aivars Leimanis's creative path is a vivid testament to his talent, dedication, and genuine love for the art of ballet. From brilliant leading roles on stage to extensive work in choreography and management of the Latvian National Opera — his contribution to the development of Latvian ballet art is hard to overestimate. With a clear artistic vision, he has created and staged performances that remain in the theater's repertoire and in the memories of audiences, inspiring new generations of dancers and the public," notes Astra Irmeja-Shefere, a board member of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet.
During the concert, Aivars Leimanis's choreographic style will be presented in excerpts from both classical works of the ballet repertoire and his own productions. The audience will see episodes from ballets such as "The Fountain of Bakhchisarai," "Coppélia," "Swan Lake," "The Nutcracker," "Esmeralda," "Don Quixote," as well as from the productions "Karlson Flies..." and "Antonia #Silmači."
The evening's program will be complemented by various video materials that will allow the audience to recall Aivars Leimanis's stage mastery and dance talent. Additionally, video greetings from foreign colleagues — renowned choreographers and ballet troupe directors — will be shown to the audience.
The concert will feature soloists and artists of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, students of the Riga Ballet School, as well as the folk dance ensemble "Dzinatarinš."
