People's Artist Elena Yakovleva presented her first painting exhibition. The vernissage was timed to coincide with the actress's 65th birthday. All proceeds from the sale of the works will be directed to a charitable foundation that supports veterans of the stage.
According to Yakovleva, her passion for painting emerged a few years ago when the pandemic provided more free time. The actress admitted that she never underwent professional training – her interest in drawing arose spontaneously after a visit to an art store, where she decided to try working with canvas and paints.
Today, her creative archive contains about 80 pieces of work.
"You approach the easel: in front of you is a white canvas, there’s nothing, and from this 'nothing' suddenly something begins to be born. <...> I already have about 80 works," the artist shared in an interview.
Yakovleva confessed that she most often picks up her brushes after performances. According to her, the emotional tension of the stage and the energy of the audience's applause sometimes prevent her from falling asleep immediately. In such moments, she approaches the easel, and the creative process helps to release accumulated feelings.
The subjects of Elena Yakovleva's paintings are diverse: among them are landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. At the same time, the artist does not strive for an exact reproduction of nature, believing that the main thing in painting is to convey mood and inner state.
