The pride of the local residents was sparked by the recognition of the enormous mural depicting the legendary opera diva Maria Callas as the best in the world for the past year. This large-scale work of art, adorning the wall of one of the city's buildings, was chosen by the international community of street art enthusiasts, Street Art Cities, outpacing serious competitors from hundreds of other countries.
The triumphant work was created by the famous Greek artist known by the pseudonym Skitsofrenis, whose real name is Kostas Loukas. The master achieved the incredible: he not only transferred the features of the great singer onto a concrete surface but also breathed into the image the very dramatic depth and aristocracy that Callas was renowned for during her lifetime. The choice of theme for Kalamata was far from accidental, as the roots of the 'divine' Maria lead directly to this region of Messenia.
