The Youth Theatre, created by director Adolf Shapiro, was one of the most important centers of cultural life in Latvia in the second half of the 20th century. The performances created by Shapiro over 30 years encouraged people to think about important life issues and approached them through innovative explorations of theatrical form. The director's work in the Youth Theatre is included in the Latvian cultural canon. In 1992, after the liquidation of the Youth Theatre, the director left Latvia...

After 34 years, the production of the legendary director will be shown in Latvia again. The premiere of "Don Quixote" will take place in the Great Hall of the New Riga Theatre on February 3.

The novel, written by the writer, playwright, and poet Miguel de Cervantes (1547–1616), is considered the first modern novel in world literature and, after the Bible, is the second most translated book in the world.

Director Adolf Shapiro justifies his choice of literary work for his production: "Poetic imagination or everyday prose? Wonderful madness or common sense? The story of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza (Cervantes referred to it as a tale, not a novel) illuminates the theater of life and theatrical life. In this light, the oscillations of the modern world between the noble intentions of hermits (they are always naive) and reconciliation with reality become more apparent. The production of 'Don Quixote' can serve as a kind of test for both the actors and the director to understand how much of Don Quixote and how much of Sancho Panza is in each of us. And the audience will also be able to test themselves."

The author and director of the adaptation is Adolf Shapiro, the translator is Gundars Abolins.

In the lead roles: Kaspars Znotins (Don Quixote) and Gundars Abolins (Sancho Panza).
