The Gors concert hall should be handed over to the state, stated the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs during a meeting on Thursday at the Riga Castle with the Minister of Culture Agnese Laizāne.

According to the president's advisor, Mārtiņš Drēgeris, the parties discussed further work and management of SIA "Austrumlatvijas koncertzāle" ("Gors"), current issues of the project "Liepāja - European Capital of Culture 2027" and the problems of public media content in minority languages.

In a conversation with the Minister of Culture, the President of Latvia stated that "Gors" in Rēzekne is not only a concert hall of regional significance in Latgale but also an important center of Latvian and Latgalian identity at the national level.

In his opinion, the state should take "Gors" into its hands and create a management model that best ensures the preservation and development of Latvian and Latgalian identity. The President of Latvia urged to consider the specifics of the Latgale region and the eastern border area, as well as what is happening in the world.

"The significance of the Latgalian embassy 'Gors' lies not only in the choice of repertoire or financial indicators. It should be viewed in the context of national identity, national security, and the long-term cultural policy of the state," said Rinkēvičs.

The President of Latvia plans to discuss with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Smart Governance and Regional Development the necessary actions to avoid delaying the transfer of 'Gors' to state management.
