It has been announced who will receive the 'Golden Microphone' award this year for contributions to the development of Latvian music

At the annual ceremony of the Latvian music award 'Golden Microphone', the post-folk collective 'Iļģi' will receive this year's award for contributions to the development of Latvian music.

The group 'Iļģi' was founded in 1981 in Riga and has been operating for 45 years under the leadership of Ilga Reizniece. The group's creativity is based on Latvian traditional music, which incorporates both authentic and modern elements.

Throughout its career, the group 'Iļģi' has released 18 albums, performed at concerts and festivals in Latvia and abroad, and participated in international projects. The group's music has been used in films, theatrical productions, and choreography, and several of their recordings have been awarded the 'Best Music Recording of the Year in Latvia' prize.

In the early 1990s, Ilga Reizniece introduced the term 'post-folk' to describe a new approach to interpreting traditional music. Over time, the group's sound has evolved, incorporating influences from other genres.

The award ceremony for the 'Golden Microphone' in the category of 'Best Music Recording of the Year in Latvia' will take place on February 28.
