The period between Christmas and New Year is traditionally rich in quiet, bright events, and one of them is the Christmas charity concert 'Gaismas saukšana' ('Call of Light'), organized by the Peteris Vasks Foundation, which will take place on December 27 at the Spikeri Concert Hall. The event starts at 18:00.
This year, the concert will take place for the eleventh time. The stage will feature young opera singer Etina Emilia Saulite (soprano), one of the most sought-after Latvian violinists Magdalena Geka, as well as renowned pianist Richard Pleshanov. All proceeds collected during the evening will be directed towards the creation of new musical works and supporting the development of Latvian chamber music — a mission that the Peteris Vasks Foundation has followed for many years.
"The title of the concert Gaismas saukšana in this dark time of year reminds us that light is closer than it seems. We have chosen a program that most accurately reflects the atmosphere of winter evenings," the organizers note.
