5 Myths About Dogs That We Still Believe: Keep in Mind, This Can Be Dangerous!

Every pet owner wants their dog to grow up healthy, active, and happy. Many owners do everything possible to achieve this.

There are many misconceptions about communicating, training, and caring for dogs that many people believe. This is reported by Popular Mechanics magazine.

A dog should eat only meat

A balanced diet for a dog should include not only meat but also other foods, such as plant-based food. Only then can the pet obtain all the necessary nutrients. Feeding dogs exclusively meat can lead to calcium deficiency and secondary hyperparathyroidism.

If a dog wags its tail, it means it is happy

In fact, dogs wag their tails not only when they are happy but also when they experience other emotions. Tail wagging can convey a wide range of emotions, from happiness and excitement to irritation and anxiety. Studies show that the position of the tail and the speed of its movement change depending on the emotions.

For example, a scared dog that feels guilty often holds its tail low, wagging it between its legs. A vigilant or excited dog holds its tail high and wags it much faster than in other situations.

Dogs see the world in black and white

Although dogs do not see the world as we do, they are still capable of distinguishing colors. Their perception is similar to that of people with deuteranopia color blindness. Thus, dogs can see yellow and blue well but cannot distinguish red and green.

A dry nose indicates illness

The temperature and humidity of a dog's nose are not primary indicators of your dog's health. The best way to know if a dog has a fever is to measure its temperature, which should be between 37.8°C and 39.1°C. Other symptoms of illness may include vomiting and diarrhea, sneezing, frequent urination, and low activity. A dry nose is not on this list.

There are hypoallergenic dogs

Unfortunately, there are no hypoallergenic dogs. There are some breeds that shed less fur or naturally have less hair. Pet allergies are an allergic reaction to proteins found in the animal's skin cells, saliva, or urine.
