The albino buffalo named 'Donald Trump' draws crowds in Dhaka ahead of Kurban Bayram: people come to see its rare light-colored fur.
The 700-kilogram buffalo belongs to farmer Zia Uddin Mridha and has gained popularity on social media due to its long light-colored fur, which many visitors compare to the hairstyle of U.S. President Donald Trump. Throughout May, families, influencers, and curious locals have been visiting the farm to photograph the rare animal.
The caretakers wash the buffalo four times a day and carefully comb its light fur under its curved horns before visitors arrive. According to the owner, due to the constant crowds and attention, the animal has lost weight recently, prompting the farm to limit public access.
Despite these measures, people from neighboring areas continue to come here, with some even arriving by boat to see the buffalo before the Eid celebrations later this month.
According to the Bangladesh Department of Livestock, albino buffaloes are extremely rare due to low melanin production.
In Bangladesh, where over 170 million people live, more than 12 million animals are expected to be sacrificed during Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayram), one of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar. Mridha says he will miss the buffalo but emphasizes that the sacrifice remains central to this religious celebration.
