When choosing a nickname for a four-legged friend, owners are often inspired by the names of famous personalities, characters from popular works, films, cartoons, and video games. At the same time, as dog trainer V. Golubev explained, it is preferable to choose a name consisting of 2–3 syllables.
As the expert says, the main guideline when selecting a name should be that it serves as a command that is pronounced most often.
It is much easier to repeat, for example, the nickname Ryzhik than to pronounce the name Violetta every time you call your pet, the specialist stated.
Moreover, as Golubev noted, if the nickname is chosen correctly, it will help establish a quicker bond between the pet and the owner. The specialist said that a long and difficult-to-pronounce name can confuse the dog. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a short, bright, and simple name.
