How to understand what the dog wants to say was explained by dog trainer V. Golubev.
As noted by the dog trainer, a calm animal may lie down with one paw tucked under itself, its posture will be soft and relaxed. In a playful mood, the dog may wag its tail joyfully, sit in a waiting position, raise its ears, and bounce with excitement. As a sign of openness and friendliness, it licks and sniffs the owner's hands.
If the dog is interested, it will start tilting its head from side to side, raise its ears, extend its neck, and study the object. Its body will be tense, and its tail will be raised.
Trying to attract the owner's attention, the pet will shift from paw to paw, gaze intently at the owner, or even whimper quietly. A frightened pet turns its head away, hides behind the owner, and submissively lies on its back. It tucks its tail between its legs, presses and lays back its ears, may bend slightly, and even tremble.
Submission indicates that the pet is trying to calm down. Some confuse this with a request for a belly rub. However, in seeking affection from the owner, the animal will behave differently: it will turn its whole body towards them, stretch out its legs, wag its tail slowly, and nudge the owner's hand with its nose, the expert concluded.
