The Guinness World Records has confirmed that the enormous reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus), found in the Maros region of Indonesia at the end of last year, has officially become the longest wild snake with a verified length.
According to the organization, the length of the female snake is 7.21 meters. This means that if this giant python were laid across standard FIFA soccer goals, it would nearly completely cover the distance between the posts. Its length is also roughly equivalent to that of six and a half shopping carts lined up end to end. In comparison, adult reticulated pythons typically reach lengths of 3.0 to 5.84 meters.
The snake is currently under the observation of nature conservationist Budi Purwanto, licensed snake catcher Dias Nugraha, and nature photographer Radu Frentiu. Nugraha and Frentiu reported that they set out in search of this impressive snake after hearing rumors of its appearance. They named it Ibu Baron, or "Baroness."
In addition to measuring with a geodetic tape, the python was also weighed by placing it in a large canvas bag. Its weight was 96.5 kg, which is roughly equivalent to the weight of an adult giant panda. Scales typically used for weighing bags of rice were employed for this purpose.
