What species will take the place of humans if they cease to exist?

If humanity faces the worst-case scenario and goes extinct, what civilization will take its place? What beings will they be?

Rats

When humanity goes extinct, rats will take over the cities. According to British scientist R. Dawkins, after the rodents eat everything, they will begin to evolve rapidly. Then food will run out, and they will be forced to compete with each other, leading to a quick succession of their generations. Since the social structures of rodents are quite developed and they are highly intelligent beings, they have every chance of taking the place of humans on Earth.

Bears

According to British researcher E. Benison, among large mammals, bears have the greatest prospects of taking a leading role on the planet. With the disappearance of humans, the number of herbivorous animals will increase, enriching the diet of predators and giving them strength.

Dogs

If humans cease to exist, the ruins of cities will be filled with packs of dogs. As a result of a global catastrophe, there could be a mass increase in their population, leading to quite interesting consequences.

It is no secret that dogs are among the smartest animals. They have complex social relationships, and they experience emotions similar to humans. Dog packs will control megacities even just because of their numbers.

Ants

Currently, there are trillions of ants on Earth, while there are only 7.3 billion humans. They already surpass many creatures in terms of intellectual development. Ant colonies are capable of cultivating different types of fungi and raising aphids as livestock. They employ military tactics and possess all the necessary means to capture new territories.

Pigs

These animals use social influence, manipulate their peers, have long-term memory, and learn remarkably quickly. They are believed to possess even more developed intelligence than dogs.

Octopuses

These are strong, agile, and intellectually advanced animals that learn through observation and use psychological tricks. Relative to their body size, they have a relatively large brain. Their eyes see approximately as ours do, and their tentacles are much more functional than human hands. They have such potential that scientist R. Burke is surprised that they have not yet taken over the planet.

Raccoons

They possess developed intelligence and build complex social structures. They could very well evolve into larger forms prone to dominance.

Cockroaches

These arthropods can survive a nuclear explosion, and 10 percent of them are completely unaffected by lethal doses of radiation. They develop extremely rapidly and reproduce at a furious pace.

Monkeys

Primates are indeed intelligent. They can learn sign language and other forms of communication. Their community has a very complex hierarchy, they use tools, show empathy, and are capable of planning.

Wolbachia

This parasitic bacterium has every chance of ruling the planet today. It governs the fate of thousands of individuals. Wolbachia lives inside the cells of insects and arthropods and has overwhelming power over its host. Of course, this bacterium does not pose a threat as a being capable of intellectual development. However, in a post-apocalyptic world, it may not need to be to become the dominant being on Earth.
