Dirty water can lead to serious diseases and even death. But representatives of the wild fauna drink it straight from puddles and water bodies. How do they manage to survive?
The fact is that they consume such water regularly and, therefore, adapt to certain microorganisms. Their immune system recognizes these microbes and fights them more effectively, reports Techinsider.
However, if there is a sudden and significant change in the bacterial profile of the water body, it can trigger the death of animals that rely on it for drinking.
Moreover, many mammals have an excellent sense of smell that helps them detect the bacteriological activity of the water body. Sensing something is wrong, they may simply go in search of a cleaner source.
It should be noted that animals can still die from drinking contaminated water, and this happens quite often, but it remains out of human sight. Usually, sick individuals hide until they recover or die.
