The Riga National Zoo will hold 'Winter Nights' from today until January 18, when the paths on the territory will be illuminated, and visitors will be able to observe the animals during the dark hours, reports the Latvian Radio News Service.
During the 'Winter Nights' month, the ticket office will be open until eight in the evening, with different hours on holidays. Daily animal feeding demonstrations will be held, said Maris Lielkalns, a representative of the zoo, on Latvian Radio.
"The paths will be illuminated, as well as some animal enclosures. Some animals may hide, but since most of them are crepuscular and nocturnal, there will definitely be activity.
The feature of the 'Winter Nights' is that various other senses, such as hearing, are heightened. For example, under the cover of darkness, the roar of a lion suddenly resonates, followed by the chorus of jackals, or from another corner — the growl of striped wolves.
Not only will the enclosures be illuminated — the zoo will also feature various glowing animal figures, creating a Christmas atmosphere."
