New Year’s decorations and festive entertainment can pose serious dangers to pets. This was reported by veterinarian Evgeny Tsypenkov.
According to the specialist, the greatest risk for cats comes from the New Year’s tree, especially if it is decorated with glass ornaments, tinsel, and garlands. Animals can get tangled in such elements or try to play with them. In some cases, cats swallow decorative pieces, which can lead to severe consequences, including death.
To reduce the threat, the veterinarian recommended avoiding the use of breakable toys and potentially dangerous decorations in homes with cats.
For dogs, the main source of stress during the New Year’s celebrations is fireworks and firecrackers. Loud noises cause intense fear in animals. Frightened dogs may try to hide or seek refuge in enclosed spaces to avoid the noise.
Tsypenkov noted that in such situations, the use of calming agents is acceptable, which help reduce anxiety levels in pets. These same medications can also be useful during visits from noisy guests, as a large number of people and increased noise levels also pose serious stress for animals.
