In the folk calendar, one of the names for this day is Tit's Day. Often, the tit was called "zin'ka" — probably, this name sounded similar to the names of saints Zeno and Zenobia, who are commemorated on this day. By this time, tits, bullfinches, and goldfinches had arrived for the winter.
On November 12, birds were especially awaited: feeders were made for them, as it was considered a good omen if a tit flew into the house.
On this day, hunters and fishermen also celebrated. Hunting enthusiasts went out for game, and they were seen off with special rituals and wishes of good luck.
Folk Omens
