A new species of spider with a striking feature has been discovered in the forests of Thailand: its body is divided exactly in half.
The left half is colored brown-orange and shows female characteristics, while the right half is whitish-gray, with distinct male features. This phenomenon is called bilateral gynandromorphism and is extremely rare in spiders, especially in the family Bemmeridae, to which the discovered species belongs.
Scientists explain this division as errors during the segregation of sex chromosomes in the early stages of embryonic development. The new species has been named Damarchus inazuma in honor of a character from Japanese manga who can change gender.
The discovery is significant for the study of spider genetics and biology, expanding the understanding of sexual dimorphism and chromosomal anomalies.
