In China, an 82-year-old retiree with the surname Zhang ended up in the hospital after eating eight live frogs.
The woman had suffered from pain caused by a lumbar hernia for many years and decided to try a folk remedy. She asked her family members to catch frogs without explaining why. First, the Chinese woman ate three amphibians, then five more.
Shortly after that, she felt severe pain and cramps in her abdomen. When the pain became so intense that the elderly woman could no longer walk, her son took her to the hospital.
Doctors discovered that the patient had a parasitic infection and damage to her digestive system. After two weeks of treatment, the woman was discharged home.
According to the senior physician of the hospital, Wu Zhongwen, they have recently received several patients with similar cases. The doctor emphasized that such "remedies" are not only useless but also extremely dangerous, reports the South China Morning Post.
