There are insects that have truly had a significant impact on human civilization.

Mosquitoes, carriers of malaria, take the lives of more than half a million people each year, and in the past, they even changed the course of wars and prompted the construction and improvement of settlement infrastructure.

The rat flea caused the plague epidemic, killing a third of Europe's population.

The body louse, a carrier of epidemic typhus, played a role in Napoleon's failure in Russia.

However, aside from their negative impact, insects also have a positive effect. For instance, the domestic silk moth (Bombyx mori) led people to develop sericulture over 5,000 years ago, and the Silk Road contributed to the economic development of many countries.

The Western honeybee (Apis mellifera) produces honey and wax combs, playing a key role in plant pollination, which is critically important for agriculture.

Insects fill numerous ecological niches and nourish other species. They inspire engineers, architects, and artists. Without them, we would lose important aspects of culture and disrupt the natural balance.
