Which plants can be planted next to onions, carrots, and cucumbers?

Before sowing, it is worth finding out which plants coexist well with each other.

Onion. One of the classic combinations is onion and carrot. These two crops protect each other from pests: carrot repels the onion fly, while onion repels the carrot fly. Due to its compact shape, onion can be used as an additional crop in the rows. It pairs well with beets, lettuce, cucumbers, strawberries, spinach, radishes, and cress. The question of onion's compatibility with cabbage is controversial: some believe that onion positively affects cabbage and helps repel its pests.

Onion is not recommended to be planted near beans, peas, and legumes. It also has unfavorable neighbors in sage.

Carrot. This crop coexists well with many plants, grows well next to onions and spinach, and harmoniously combines with tomatoes, radishes, turnips, chard, chives, garlic, and lettuce. However, the closest plant to carrot, with which it has a mutually beneficial relationship, is pea. It is recommended to surround carrots with crops such as sage, tobacco, and onion to repel the carrot fly.

Hostile neighbors for carrots are dill and anise.

Cucumbers. Suitable companions for cucumbers include bush and pole beans, celery, beets, lettuce, cabbage, garlic, onions, spinach, chives, radishes, and fennel. Beans have the most positive influence on cucumbers, so it is recommended to plant them around cucumber beds. Cucumbers themselves are advised to be planted around corn, which significantly benefits from such companionship. Favorable herbs for cucumbers include chamomile, dill, and cucumber herb.
