How to Help Your Child Learn to Play Independently?

Before leaving your child alone to play, give them attention: talk, hug, and pat them on the back, advises psychologist and children's art therapist Yana GRYSHEL.

Assist your child at the beginning of the game: come up with a storyline together, assign roles, and gather the necessary items for play.

Inform your child that you are temporarily stepping away but will definitely return if they need help. This will create a sense of security for them.

Show by your own example that spending time alone can be enjoyable. Take your favorite book and start reading, inviting your child to sit next to you and read their own book.

Honestly ask yourself: “Am I ready for my child to become independent?” — from my experience as a psychologist, it is often mothers who are not ready to let their children go, which hinders them from developing their small independent lives.
