Gel or Powder for Washing: What to Choose?

Today, manufacturers offer a wide range of washing detergents. The two most popular options are powder and gel. In this article, we will examine how washing gels differ from powders in terms of their ability to remove stains, as well as what to consider to ensure your items look impeccably clean after washing.

Degree of Soiling

Liquid detergents contain the same active substances as powders, but have a more gentle washing effect. Therefore, they are ideal for everyday laundry. Gels work well in water temperatures of 20–40 °C, and if the items are not too dirty and only need refreshing, gel will be the optimal choice. Additionally, due to the presence of enzymes in the composition, liquid detergents effectively remove organic stains.

Washing powder is designed to tackle heavy soiling. It can be used in hot water (90–95 °C), which allows for effective dirt removal.

Type of Material

For cotton, linen fabrics, and bedding that are washed on long cycles, powder is the best choice.

A special gel is ideal for wool, synthetics, and delicate fabrics. It dissolves well in water, gently affects the material without damaging it, and provides excellent results even at low washing temperatures.

Color of Clothing

Powder can leave streaks on black clothing. Therefore, it is recommended to use gel for washing such items. It rinses out easily, leaving no whitish traces, preserves color brightness, and effectively tackles stains. Gel is suitable for all types of fabrics, and special components protect the internal parts of the washing machine from limescale buildup.

Washing Method

For hand washing and soaking, it is better to use powder. Liquid detergents in this case will not yield the expected results. This is because during the operation of the washing machine, the mechanical activation of the gel components occurs, which enhances its washing effect. Thus, gels are intended solely for machine washing!

In conclusion, both powder and gel for washing have their advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, the choice should be made based on the specific task.

Advantages of Gel:

quickly dissolves and rinses out easily;
effective even in cold water;
gently affects the fabric;
convenient for dosing;
compact for storage;
does not create dust and does not irritate mucous membranes and respiratory tracts.

Advantages of Powder:

effectively deals with heavy soiling;
versatile: suitable for various types of washing;
ideal for washing in hot water.
