What to Do If Pasta Is Overcooked - Saving the Dish

In our time, when the cooking time is indicated on every pasta package, and sometimes even specified for achieving an al dente state, it becomes quite difficult to overcook pasta.

According to the general rule, to achieve an al dente state, pasta should be cooked for about a minute less than the time indicated on the package. However, even if you overcooked the pasta by a minute and a half to two minutes, it won’t be a disaster, especially if you chose high-quality pasta made from durum wheat.

If the pasta is overcooked by 3-5 minutes or more, you have several options. The first is to serve it as it is, apologizing to your guests for the mishap. The second is to drain the pasta in a colander and immediately rinse it with cold water to quickly stop the cooking process.

Once the water has drained, place the pasta in a bowl and add a little olive oil to prevent it from sticking together. In this form, the pasta can be left until the next day. The next day, you can use it to make a casserole, where the texture won’t be as critical.
