How to Fall Asleep Quickly: A Useful and Simple Tip

Research conducted by scientists from the National University of Seoul in South Korea has shown that fluctuations in body temperature affect the process of falling asleep. According to their findings, wearing socks can help lower core body temperature, which promotes faster sleep onset!

Socks promote the dilation of peripheral blood vessels, leading to increased blood flow to the legs. As a result, when blood flows downwards, core body temperature begins to decrease.

In the experiment, participants either wore socks or remained sockless. The scientists recorded various sleep parameters, such as sleep onset time, sleep efficiency, total sleep time, number of awakenings, time awake after falling asleep, average duration of awakenings, and movements during sleep.

All measurements were taken over seven hours while participants slept in a room with a temperature of 23°C. Heart rate and skin temperature were also recorded, and participants were asked to rate their sleep quality and whether they felt rested.

The results showed that those who went to bed wearing socks fell asleep 7.5 minutes faster than those who did not wear socks! Moreover, the total sleep time for those wearing socks increased by 32 minutes. They also awoke 7.5 times less frequently during the night.

Thus, the researchers concluded that wearing socks before bedtime “positively affects sleep quality.” Therefore, our advice is to simply wear socks at night!
