On this day, Christians turn their prayers to the icon "Joy of All Who Sorrow."
Turning to the Mother of God, people believe that she will help resolve all difficult life problems and assist in coping with ailments of the soul and body.
The image was painted in 1683 by the icon painter Ivan Bezminov. In the center of the canvas, the Virgin Mary is depicted holding the infant, while below stand the sick who ask for her intercession, and above are angels and saints.
The first case of a miracle associated with this image was recorded in 1688. According to the chronicles, the sister of the Patriarch of Moscow, Euphemia, was seriously ill, and the doctors could not cure her. The girl asked the Mother of God for help and heard a voice. The Virgin Mary told her that she needed to pray before the miraculous icon. The image was brought to the girl, she prayed, and realized that she had been healed. The news of the miraculous icon spread quickly.
