Immunologist named a way to help protect the body from colds

Acclimatization increases the body's resistance to cold infections, said allergist-immunologist Vladimir Bolibok.

According to him, it is important to create moderate temperature stress that activates the body's protective mechanisms.

"Temperature contrast during acclimatization causes the release of adrenaline and steroid hormones, which positively affects immunity. However, extreme methods, such as swimming in cold water, are not suitable for everyone and require caution," explained Bolibok.

The specialist recommends acting gradually so that the body has time to adapt to the changes. It is better to start with a warm shower at a temperature of about 34-36°C, then gradually lower the temperature to 18-20°C. According to him, regular procedures help to endure illnesses in an asymptomatic or mild form. However, in the presence of an infection, sudden cooling can provoke an exacerbation, the expert warned.

"If there is already an infection in the body, sudden cooling can provoke the disease. That is why acclimatization should be started in advance — at least at the beginning of the ARVI season. Even if you start now, in 2-4 weeks you will not achieve the same effect as with regular practice," the doctor concluded.
