Are children's taste preferences inherited from their parents?

No, there is no hereditary food neophobia (the unwillingness to try new food or to avoid it), explained child nutrition consultant and nutritionist Yulia Barycheva.

This case concerns eating behavior and habits that are formed in a family environment or depend on various factors, including social ones — standard of living and overall surroundings.

Moreover, it is important to consider the differences between adults and children, whose bodies are in a stage of active growth.

Therefore, if a child refuses certain foods (fish, meat, vegetables), it is crucial to first understand the reasons for this refusal.

The expert also emphasized that the reason for the reluctance to eat certain foods may not only lie in their taste. Our body is much more complex than it may seem. It could be due to a deficiency of enzymes, low stomach acidity, the presence of parasites, or insufficient bile flow. A comprehensive examination is necessary.

Additionally, everyone has their own preferences. Some foods are liked more, others less, and this is absolutely normal. However, a complete refusal of an entire group of foods, especially at a young age, is unacceptable.
