Why I Prefer to Cook Swiss Rösti

Switzerland is known for its exquisite dishes and unique flavors that captivate the hearts of gourmets around the world. One such culinary discovery is rösti — tender Swiss potato pancakes. Many claim they surpass traditional potato fritters. Today, I will share with you the original recipe for these wonderful delicacies.

How to Make Tender Swiss Rösti

Swiss rösti is not just food; it is a true culinary art. The dish is made from simple and accessible ingredients. It not only delights with its unique taste but also fills you with energy for the entire day.

Preparation Steps

Grate the potatoes on a grater, preferably into thin long strips. Rinse them thoroughly with cold water and place them on a towel to remove excess moisture. Then transfer them to a large deep bowl.

Also, grate the onion and add it to the potatoes. Mix both ingredients thoroughly, preferably using your hands without utensils. Add salt to taste.

Now pour some sunflower oil into the pan. Place a handful of the potato and onion mixture, spread it evenly, and shape it with a spatula. Fry over medium heat until golden brown, a few minutes on each side. Serve the ready rösti immediately after frying. Swiss rösti turns out incredibly delicious.

What Sauces Can Be Served with These Rösti

Swiss rösti is a versatile dish that pairs well with various sauces, adding diversity to the flavors. Here are a few ideas.

Sour Cream Sauce

1 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste

Mix the sour cream with lemon juice, add salt and pepper. This sauce will give the rösti a delicate sour-cream flavor.

Tartar Sauce

1/2 cup Greek yogurt
1 pickled cucumber
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
fresh herbs (dill, parsley) to taste
salt and pepper to taste

Mix the yogurt with finely chopped cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, herbs, salt, and pepper. Tartar will add freshness and lightness to your rösti.

Mushroom Sauce

200 g mushrooms, chopped
1 onion, minced
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons sour cream
salt and pepper to taste

Sauté the onion and mushrooms in butter, add broth and sour cream, and cook until thickened. The mushroom sauce will give the rösti a rich flavor.

Choose a sauce to your liking and enjoy the wonderful combination of aromas. Try this unique recipe, and your home will be filled with the atmosphere of Switzerland. Bon appétit!
