Nutritionist Discusses the Potential Dangers of Cranberries

Cranberries are one of the most popular berries, possessing a unique composition and numerous health benefits. Nutritionist and healthy eating specialist Elena Solomatina shares information about cranberries and warns that despite their benefits, the berry can be harmful.

Elena Solomatina emphasizes that numerous studies have confirmed the effectiveness of cranberries in protecting the body from cardiometabolic diseases. These include various heart and vascular diseases, as well as metabolic disorders. Scientists claim that this berry may contribute to increased longevity due to its high nutrient content.

“Although almost 80% of cranberries consist of water, the remaining 20% contains a significant amount of vitamins, especially B vitamins, as well as A, E, K, and C. Additionally, cranberries are rich in sodium, magnesium, zinc, copper, potassium, iron, phosphorus, and other essential trace elements. One should not forget the presence of carbohydrates and fiber, as well as the low calorie content, but only in fresh form,” notes Elena Solomatina.

This diverse and beneficial composition not only helps normalize cholesterol levels in the blood and reduces the risks of cardiovascular diseases, the doctor clarifies, but also positively affects other systems of the body.

“Despite all the advantages of the product, it is important to remember that any food can cause individual intolerance and allergic reactions. For example, cranberries are very similar to sea buckthorn, and both berries can irritate the stomach due to their high acidity. Therefore, I do not recommend consuming cranberries in large quantities for those suffering from gastritis, ulcers, and other gastrointestinal diseases,” warns Dr. Solomatina.

She also advises caution with cranberries for those suffering from urolithiasis. Excessive consumption of this berry may worsen the course of the disease or provoke its development.
