The Dangers of Aspic: What You Need to Know

Gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh warned about the potential harmful properties of aspic. Therefore, some people should refrain from this dish.

 

According to the expert, due to its high concentration of fat and spices, aspic is not recommended for children under three years old. This product is poorly digested and can cause intestinal irritation.

The doctor also advises those suffering from kidney stones, gastrointestinal diseases, and gout to consume aspic with caution.

“In gout, uric acid accumulates in the body — a nitrogen-containing compound, the end product of purine metabolism. Aspic hinders the excretion of uric acid through urine and worsens the course of the disease,” explained the gastroenterologist.

Furthermore, Kashukh recommends avoiding the combination of aspic with high-calorie dishes, such as fried meat or salads with mayonnaise. It is better to serve this dish with vegetable salads and sour cream.
