Avocado is a fruit that requires a special approach to storage. It can remain 'hard' for a long time and then unexpectedly overripen. Renowned chef Konstantin Ivlev shared a method that will help make avocado soft in just 5 minutes.
There are many recommendations for choosing avocados, but there is always a chance of buying an overripe fruit. Sometimes, home cooks prefer to buy greener fruits to avoid the risk. There are times when avocados are bought in advance, and sometimes there are simply no ripe specimens available on the shelves. In any case, every avocado lover may face a situation where they have a hard fruit at home while expecting guests in an hour.
Renowned chef Konstantin Ivlev believes that there is nothing critical in such a situation.
“If you have a 'hard' avocado, put a pot of water on the stove, completely peel it, and drop the halves of the fruit into boiling water, adding a piece of lemon. After a couple of minutes, take them out and transfer to cold water,” shares the chef.
He claims that the avocado will not change color, will not lose its taste, and will not spoil, but he does not recommend keeping it in cold water for more than 5 minutes.
Ivlev also has a secret for a natural way to ripen the fruits. The avocado should be wrapped in newspaper and left at room temperature for a few days. According to the chef, the newspaper will retain the necessary moisture and create optimal conditions for ripening. After a few days, at most a week, the fruit should be checked for softness. If it is soft enough, it can be peeled and added to favorite dishes.
