Tea consumed on an empty stomach can cause heartburn, nausea, and stomach discomfort, said gastroenterologist N. Vasilieva.
According to the specialist, both black and green tea contain caffeine and tannins. This combination invigorates and increases productivity, but at the same time enhances the production of gastric juice. If you don't have a snack, the drink can provoke heartburn, nausea, gastrointestinal pain, and even exacerbate ulcers.
Therefore, the doctor recommended drinking tea after meals or combining it with dried fruits and other light foods. Additionally, one can prefer fruit and herbal infusions — they do not affect gastric juice production.
Vasilieva also reminded about the diuretic effect of tea. If consumed immediately after waking up, the risk of dehydration increases. For preventive purposes, the specialist advises drinking a glass of water first, and then tea.
