A bus from "Rīgas satiksme" collided with a Hyundai car on Ilūkstes Street in Riga. Despite minor damage to the vehicles, medical assistance was needed for two passengers of the bus.

The accident occurred on Ilūkstes Street, where a public transport bus collided with a Hyundai car. After the crash, medics, police, and other emergency services arrived at the scene.

The vehicles did not sustain serious damage; however, the trip ended with the hospitalization of two female passengers of the bus — a young woman and an elderly passenger. Eyewitnesses saw medics placing the injured on stretchers before transporting them to a medical facility.

The driver of the Hyundai did not deny his responsibility for what happened.

"I am at fault — I pulled out in front of the bus. I don’t even understand how it happened," he told reporters from the show Degpunktā (TV3).

According to the man, after the accident, he approached the passengers to inquire about their condition.

"The girl fell and got hurt. I don’t know what happened to the older woman. She was not well before, and after the fall, the situation could have worsened," the driver noted.

Since the vehicles sustained only minor damage, it can be assumed that the passengers were injured not at the moment of the collision, but due to the sudden braking of the bus.

Such situations often occur in public transport when a sudden maneuver or emergency braking leads to people falling inside the cabin.

The company "Rīgas satiksme" reported that they are cooperating with the police and are ready to provide recordings from surveillance cameras to clarify all the circumstances of the incident. Company representative Baiba Bartashevicha-Feldmane emphasized that final conclusions about the causes of the accident will be made after the police investigation.

The company also reminded passengers of the necessity to hold onto handrails during the trip, regardless of whether they are seated or standing in the cabin.

Drivers of passenger cars, in turn, are advised to exercise particular caution near public transport, as even a minor accident can lead to injuries for people inside the bus.

"Rīgas satiksme" wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery.
