State Border Guard officers at Riga Airport detained two individuals who were wanted, as well as identified four foreigners attempting to cross the border with counterfeit documents in one day.

On Wednesday, border guards at Riga Airport identified several serious violations related to crossing the state border.

During checks, two individuals who were wanted by law enforcement were detained. One of them is a citizen of Latvia who was planning to fly to the United Kingdom. The other is a non-citizen of Latvia who arrived on a flight from Germany. After their detention, both were handed over to the State Police.

In addition, during the passenger checks, border guard officers discovered four foreigners who presented counterfeit documents. Among them were two citizens of Somalia, a citizen of Ethiopia, and a citizen of Bangladesh.

According to the border guards, counterfeit documents from various European Union countries were used, including a Dutch identity card and French residence permits. One of the detainees also presented a counterfeit Pakistani passport. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in all these cases for the use of counterfeit documents and concealment of identity.

Separately, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan was identified who was in the Schengen area without a valid visa or residence permit. He was held administratively accountable.

Border control also led to the refusal of entry for several foreign citizens.

At Riga Airport, a citizen of Azerbaijan was denied entry as he could not convincingly explain the purpose of his visit and the conditions of his stay in the country.

Additional refusals were recorded at other border points as well. In particular, at the Terehovo border crossing, for security reasons, entry was denied to two citizens of Germany, as well as citizens of Italy, Moldova, Israel, Russia, Lithuania, and Belarus. All these individuals were returned to the countries from which they arrived.

Border guards also conducted checks within Latvia. During immigration control, violations of entry and stay rules were identified among two citizens of Russia and one citizen of Pakistan.

Separate violations were related to the operation of vehicles and crossing the border. On these grounds, 17 more individuals were either held accountable or denied entry.

This case shows that in addition to document control and passenger flow, the border service regularly identifies wanted individuals, violations of migration regulations, and attempts to use counterfeit documents when crossing the border.
