Over the past weekend, a motorcyclist – a citizen of Estonia, who attempted to flee from the police, received a fine of 6700 euros and lost his driver's license. This was reported to bb.lv by the State Police of Latvia.
On Sunday around 1:00 PM, during a patrol in the Kodeš municipality of Bauska County, a police car's radar recorded a motorcycle traveling at a speed of 126 km/h in a zone where the limit was 70 km/h. Additionally, the symbols on the vehicle's state registration number were covered with a sticker.
Latvian police attempted to stop the Estonian biker, but to no avail. The Estonian was not slow – he further increased his speed and attempted to flee. The information was also relayed to the municipal police crew in Iecava.
Upon entering the town of Iecava, at an intersection, the municipal police crew tried to block the violator's path, but again it was unsuccessful.
Officers of the State Police repeatedly demanded in Latvian and English that the vehicle stop, but the motorcyclist did not respond and continued to flee, increasing his speed. The chase continued along the Bauska highway towards Riga until the Kekava region, where the driver, not assessing the traffic intensity, abruptly braked.
After stopping the motorcycle, the police detained the man – a citizen of Estonia.
Six administrative proceedings were initiated against the violator. The total amount of the imposed fine was 6700 euros, and the man was also deprived of the right to drive vehicles for three years.
A criminal case has also been initiated against him. This could lead to imprisonment for up to five years. The final measure of punishment will be determined by the court.
