During the Resort Festival in Jurmala, a conflict between several men escalated into a violent brawl in front of thousands of people. One participant ended up in the hospital, and the police detained a young man suspected of causing bodily harm.
The resort festival in Jurmala, which gathered thousands of residents and visitors, was overshadowed by a mass brawl on Jomas Street, which bb.lv reported on yesterday.
According to eyewitnesses, the conflict erupted among several groups and quickly escalated into a violent brawl right in the middle of the crowded street, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
“There was a huge crowd around, like in an arena — everyone was watching, thousands of people,” said one of the witnesses of the incident.
Judging by the video recordings that spread on social media, the participants in the conflict were delivering numerous blows to each other. At one point, one of the men fell to the ground after a series of punches and stopped moving.
After that, passersby began to approach the injured man, trying to provide assistance until emergency services arrived.
Eyewitnesses report that after the fight, there were traces of blood left on the cobblestones.
“It only takes one punch. One punch can break a bone to the brain. When I walked by, that guy was already lying in blood, and two others had broken noses,” said a witness to the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, law enforcement was not present in the immediate vicinity at the moment the conflict began, but later the police arrived at the scene and stopped further clashes.
Initially, the police opened a criminal case under the article on causing serious bodily harm. The injured man, born in 1998, was taken to the P. Stradins Clinical University Hospital. However, after examination, doctors did not confirm the presence of serious injuries.
As a result, the case was reclassified to an article on hooliganism related to causing bodily harm. According to State Police representative Liga Dziluma, the injured man has already been discharged from the medical facility.
A young man born in 2005 has been detained on suspicion of causing bodily harm. The reasons for the conflict have not yet been officially disclosed. The investigation is ongoing.
The incident has once again raised questions about the safety of mass events, where even a single conflict can escalate into a serious fight in front of hundreds of people.
